Background on Reiki
For some great background information about what Reiki is, I would recommend either the Om Reiki Centre website or the ARC (Australian Reiki Connection) website. In the meantime, here is my summary, in the form of Q & A, based on my experience.

What is it?Many people have heard of it, and most know it has something to do with
healing. In a nutshell, it is harnessing universal energy to promote
healing.
It is chanelling this energy and directing it to flow in a particular
area, usually onto yourself or another person or thing.
What do I need to do?Nothing, just lie there. If possible, it would be great if you could
steer clear of things like caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes,
non-prescription drugs, even meat,
on the day or from the day before the session. But if you don't, it's
no drama. This is because it is said the clearer the system, the more
receptive it will be.
If possible, drink plenty of water, before and after your session.
What will happen after the session?Everyone will have a different experience. Sometimes it will appear as though nothing happened. Some people cry, which may be a reaction to a blockage being cleared. Some people may feel very emotional. Some may feel more energised, more relaxed, inspired, lighter, and so on.

What happens in a Reiki session? All you do is lie down, fully clothed, and relax. Every session is
different. Every Reiki practitioner is different.
It can be hands on, or hands off, depending on the area being worked on
and the practitioner. Some prefer totally one way or another.
Everyone has their own style. It is very gentle. There is no
manipulation or physical pressure of any kind.
What will I feel during the session? This will vary between people and between sessions. Some people feel heat. Some feel static.
Some feel nothing. Some people fall asleep. Most feel relaxed, calm and peaceful.
Why Reiki over other forms of therapy?Because it is so gentle, you are extremely unlikely to have an adverse reaction. Why not try it.. Unless you try, you don't know if it will work for you. If it appeals to you, for whatever reason, then give it a go. It doesn't hurt!
